Piano in the Park

Many of you are probably wondering what happened to the paint clad piano that used to be under the pavilion in Sutton Loop Park in Maplewood. I was wondering the same thing. One day, it just disappeared. For those of you who are not familiar with said piano you’re probably wondering “piano?… piano in the park??” But yes, you heard me correctly, a piano in the park.

Well, in response the original question “where is the piano,” I have the answer. It reached it’s final days and had to be removed. This is truly a sad reality. That piano inspired many, provided a chance for music to be played and shared, and established an amazing thing for our community. This piano has been part of the Maplewood community since 2017 and has really been a cool addition to the park.

Great news though- a NEW piano is coming to the park TODAY. Yes, you heard me correctly, a new (well, gently loved) piano will be seated under the same pavilion in Sutton Loop Park in Maplewood. This piano was graciously donated by a local Maplewood family; a huge THANK YOU to Elizabeth Embree and family for this donation! Shock City School of Music is proud to sponsor the care and upkeep of our lovely new piano in the park.

Jackson Pianos is also sponsoring this effort and providing the piano move, maintenance, repair, upkeep, and tuning. Jackson Pianos is the school and studio’s GO TO piano technician for ALL piano services and we are so excited for their participation in this program with us.

We couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to provide a piano to our incredible Maplewood community. The piano will certainly get a lot of love and attention.

Play your heart out and ENJOY. Be sure to check-in to and/or tag Shock City School of Music and use hashtag #maplewoodpiano when posting your photos and videos of your music adventures. We can not wait to see them and to be part of the music magic!

We will post photos of our own soon, but in the mean time, for more information, you can check out….
