JOE LAYTON
DRUMS, PERCUSSION, BEGINNING PIANO
Joe is a music instructor specializing in drums, percussion, and beginner-level piano. He started teaching privately in 2007 in the St. Charles area and now resides in Maplewood. He studied jazz musical performance and audio production at Webster University, obtaining both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music. Joe enjoyed performing in jazz band, concert band, choir, and orchestra throughout his collegiate years. He is a professional musician with extensive training in both jazz musical performance and classical percussion techniques. Most recently, he performs regularly in various indie-rock groups throughout the Midwest and fills in as a sideman for local rock bands in his spare time.
Joe’s teaching philosophy is one tailored to the individual student. Whether a young beginner or tenured musician, Joe emphasizes what musical experience best inspires his students to become the musician they aspire to. Whether traditional, classical percussive techniques, learning the basics of the keyboard, or venturing into the world of Jazz, bebop and other advanced techniques, Joe tailors his teaching approach to best fit the individual student.
