Joe Meyer was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo., where he went to Webster University and received a B.A. in Music in 2004. He has lived in Oakland, while touring with John Nemeth, and Nashville, where he toured with country singer Craig Campbell. Joe has appeared on NBC's Today Show, TrunkFest with Eddie Trunk, and the Grand Ole Opry on 14 occasions. He has toured in 17 different countries and 49 of the 50 United States.

Tyler Dale is a professional recording artist, producer, guitarist, singer-songwriter, bassist, and has taught guitar for over 10 years. In 2015, Tyler graduated from SIUE with a BA in Jazz Guitar Performance.  He’s taught students from all ages in private and group lessons.

Joe Pastor is accomplished not only as a music educator, but also as performer and composer. He holds a Master’s of Art in Teaching and a Bachelor of Music Performance in Jazz Percussion. A Missouri-certified K-12 music teacher, Joe was the director of music at Bishop DuBourg High School for seven years and has been teaching college music classes and ensembles for over ten years at St. Louis Community College and at Jefferson College.

Ethan Forte is a native to Columbia, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri (Mizzou) with a double major in Music Composition and Music Education, with a certificate in Multicultural Studies in the Spring of 2021.

Forte is working towards completing his Master’s Degree in Music Composition at Webster University, while also studying teaching pedagogy, choral techniques, and strings chamber music. He currently serves as a sacred Music Director and teaches private music lessons in multiple capacities, including cello, voice, and beginning musicians.

Tanner Caldwell was born in Houston, TX, but it wasn’t until he moved to St. Louis in 6th grade when a saxophone was put in his hands. The rest is history in the making. Tanner started learning about jazz in middle school and high school, and even participated in the extracurricular program JazzU during his junior and senior year of high school. This all lead to studying under Jason Swagler at SIUE.

While Erica has experience with singing, ukulele, and songwriting, her main passion is to help ignite the love of music within others, which is why she enjoys having the opportunity to work with a music school such as Shock City.

jonathan taylor

Music Director & Office Manager

Jonathan Taylor is a percussionist, educator, and composer who has been based in St. Louis since 2003. Jonathan is currently pursuing a Master of Education degree at the University of Missouri–St Louis. He was named a Kranzberg Arts Foundation Artist in Residence for 2021–2023. Previously, he was the percussion instructor for Northwest High School in Cedar Hill, Mo. (2013–2021). He joined Shock City in 2024.
